Web Developer

We are looking for a creative individual to join our team as a front end developer, where you will work on a variety of client projects delivering excellently designed, hand-coded websites.

Pale Blue Dot is a full service agency, based in Belfast and London and operating globally. We work with clients of all sizes and across all sectors, from Rio Ferdinand and his FIVE brand to Emirates Airlines and Diageo. We are a small, close-knit team and punch well above our weight.

We’re now expanding and looking for a new web developer to join our team. If you’re ambitious and want to work on exciting, international, high profile projects in a fun, relaxed and caring environment, this is one for you.

You will primarily be tasked with front-end markup (HTML, CSS, Javascript) and CMS implementation and customisation. The majority of our projects are built on content management systems, like Craft CMS and Shopify.

Your Responsibilities

  • Participating in project planning, strategy and estimation of tasks.
  • Working closely with designers on technical feasibility.
  • Translating designs into front-end templates that render as responsive, interactive webpages.
  • Building custom features to extend CMS functionality.
  • Auditing code to meet quality standards such as SEO, accessibility, security.
  • Optimising websites for performance.
  • Deploying websites.
  • Maintaining, supporting and upgrading past projects.
  • Learning and staying on top of web standards, development workflows, coding strategies and other industry best practises. We will support you in your professional development.

Your work will involve rotation of all the above. It is not expected that you will stand out at everything on the first day of your job. However you should already be comfortable with:

  • Collaborating using version control systems.
  • Writing HTML, CSS and JavaScript code.
  • Coding templates from a designs and developing and deploying a CMS (e.g. WordPress, Craft CMS, Jekyll).
  • Experience with eCommerce platforms (Shopify/Magento).

Must Haves

  • 1+ years of experience working within an agency.
  • An excellent working knowledge of HTML5, CSS3 and SASS, including responsive design and graceful degradation techniques.
  • Knowledge of JavaScript/jQuery.
  • Experience with CMS platforms (ideally Craft, WordPress, Shopify).
  • Experience with cross-browser and optimisation techniques.
  • Understanding of good UI/UX techniques.
  • Understanding of Web APIs.
  • Some Linux / CentOS and cPanel knowledge.

Nice to Haves

  • Ability to work with Sketch.
  • NodeJS/Angular/React.
  • Ability to create custom plugins.
  • Experience with Shopify/Shopify App Development.

Job Type: Full-time. Remote working and flexible working will be considered.

Salary: Dependent on experience

Experience: Working in an agency: 2 years (preferred)
